Activity
# 4
- Practical
understanding of the distances and sizes associated with the solar system
In groups, use a 60 m adding machine paper tape. On a handout table, list the sun and planets, and use the website data from Activity 2 to convert distance and size data. Based on 1 cm = 1,000,000 km, calculate the distances and relative size of each planet at that scale. Mark the Sun as a 1.3 cm circle on one end of the tape, and plot each planet as appropriate dots at scaled distances along the tape. |
